Intel releases 45nm Penryn core processors

After much ado and hordes of pre-launch coverage, Intel has made good on their promise for a launch this weekend and made Penryn processors available.

The new CPUs using the 45nm process bring several new attractive features to the Xeon line, including relative low cost that the units start out at, such as quad-core models for barely above $200. This will give not only Intel a boost, but give AMD yet another run for their money in the business market as Intel puts more pressure on them. With this new lineup, Intel now has quad-core CPUs with TDPs in the 50W range, which shows a huge improvement over existing lines. What will AMD's response be? At the moment, probably nothing – and Intel once again steals the spotlight with these new units.
