In yet another sign on how serious Samsung takes its aggressive move into the storage market, the company will reportedly unveil (or at least discuss) the first 1.3-inch hard drive targeted at "mobile consumer devices" during next year's CES in Las Vegas.

To put that into perspective, current iPod Classic drives are 1.8-inches. Samsung is also among the world leaders in NAND flash memory, which is becoming increasingly popular in smaller devices like the iPod nano. But a 1.3-inch hard drive could be a major move towards thinner, lighter laptops and portable players without having to incur the higher cost of SSD drives.

The company will also be announcing a 1TB, 3.5-inch RAID Edition drive, and new 320GB mobile hard drives for notebooks.
