SWsoft introduces Parallels Server
The small yet growing and definitely crowded virtualization market is getting another contender. Not a surprising one at that as they outright said they would be doing this last year, but SWsoft, known for their Parallels software that lets Windows run on a Mac, will be introducing a virtualization suite. Dubbed “Parallels Server”, the company touts support for the newest hardware virtualization technologies and such feats as being able to run multiple versions of Mac OS X Server at once.
However, what are they brining to the table that VMWare does not already? In many ways they are just following on the coattails of those that came before. They have introduced a hypervisor, and supporting the latest technology always helps – but in six months, the latest technology today is old news. There is a beta running for the software you can apply for, though I would like to see what their trump card is.
