PSP gets Skype update
Rumors of the Skype VoIP feature coming to the PSP popped up earlier this month, and it was officially confirmed at this year’s CES in Las Vegas. Now, Sony has finally issued the long-awaited firmware 3.90 update for the PSP, allowing owners of the new PSP Slim and Lite handheld to make free online calls to some 200 million other Skype users around the world.
To take advantage of the Skype feature, users need only to download the new system update, sign up for a Skype account, and start talking using the headset and remote control. Along with the arrival of Skype, firmware 3.90 also adds the Go!Messenger icon to the PSP’s menu. However, until the next firmware update at the end of February, you won’t be able to use it. Go!Messenger will, amongst other features, add the ability for the console to host video and voice chat.
