AMD announces ATI FireGL V7700 with DisplayPort support
AMD presented today what they claim is the first commercially available 3D workstation graphics card with DisplayPort support. The new ATI FireGL V7700 is packed with features that make it a workhorse, though not surprisingly it resembles closely many of the characteristics of a Radeon product we have got to know quite a bit over the past few months. Based on the RV670 core, this new FireGL board comes equipped with 512MB of memory, Dual link DVI output, certification for CAD and DCC applications, and a 10-bit display engine.
The first FireGL V7700 shipments should begin moving next month through AMD's channel partners for a suggested retail price of $1,099. This would seem like an obscenely price to charge on the consumer space, even more so considering the card is close in specs to a Radeon HD 3870 that costs a fraction, that said the card is aimed squarely at workstation use and medical imaging, and we don't see many of those people soft-modding their videocards.
