Microsoft releases Windows XP SP3 to the public
Though Windows XP SP3 reached RTM status more than a week ago and subsequently trickled down to several download sites, it wasn’t until today that the third service pack for Windows XP has been officially released to Windows Update for public consumption.
Currently, the final build is only available through Windows Update but the 300MB+ standalone installer is expected to become available throughout the day on the Microsoft Download Center. So, if you are still running the older but stable and mature XP version of Microsoft Windows go ahead and grab the update, which includes more than 1,100 hotfixes and patches as well as new features such as Network Access Protection and Black Hole Router detection.

| svprecept on May 7, 2008 3:25 PM | Loaded XP SP3 today on a HP and and old Toshiba. Worked fine
on both computers. A funny thing happened though in both
cases. The automatic update feature did not initiate the
update. In both cases, I used the manual process with no
problem; except, that after the update started manually, the
"silly" computers, both of them decided to also start the
update automatically. So.... if it does not start on your
automatic update system, you might want to disable automatic
updates until you are finished with the manual download and
installation. The speed difference on both computers with
XP SP3 is much improved. I did manual defrags on both
computers subsequently with good results.

SP 3 on May 7. The new NVIDIA drivers seem to speed things
up a litle bit more. Not a techie but so far so good.
