It's been almost a year since Sony announced its PlayTV set-top box accessory for the PlayStation 3, but the long wait is almost over - for those who live in the UK, that is. The company has confirmed that the much-awaited device will hit the UK on September 19 followed by a roll-out in other European countries this December.

For those not familiar with the concept, PlayTV is Sony's forthcoming PVR attachment for the PlayStation 3 that will allow users to record digital TV while they play games or watch other programs. In addition, those who also own a PSP will be able to stream live or recorded content to their portable device using remote play functionality. The PlayTV, which will sell for £70 (or about $130), is also said to be HD ready should local broadcasters decide to make the digital transition.
