Apple
Orange pays people to stand in iPhone lines
We've all seen the results of incredibly-hyped hardware going for sale, massive lines that can span city blocks with people camping out for days, and hardware shortages in the first few weeks. A lot of that comes from good PR and hype, which Apple excels at. It seems one region of the world wasn't counting on Apple's great PR to carry them through though, and instead used a crafted PR stunt rather than a fan-generated one to drum up interest in the iPhone.
In Poland, the largest mobile operator in the region, Orange, has resorted to using fake lines of people outside of stores to try and get more interest in the device. The reason? It seems the much higher price tag in Poland as compared to, say, the U.S., has them worried that many people won't be willing to spend that much money on it.
An interesting tactic, to say the least.
