Toshiba introduces 256GB 2.5" SSD

Toshiba has bolstered their SSD lineup with a very sizable addition, making a new 256GB unit available. The drive has more than just a large capacity to boast about too – it is also incredibly thin, sitting inside a standard 2.5” profile that is a mere 3mm tall. They claim this ultra-thin drive is aimed at ultra mobile PCs and other cramped environments that have limited room.

The drives are already sampling, and are expected to enter mass production soon. SSDs may not be breaking the price barrier that traditional disks have one-up them on for quite a while, but they are definitely making leaps and bounds to match capacity. Toshiba also announced SATA flash modules in capacities from 8GB up to 32GB, using much slower technology than the SSDs.
