Intel plans Centrino 2 platform refresh for April next year
DigiTimes, citing sources at notebook makers, is reporting that Intel plans to issue a significant update to its current Centrino 2 notebook platform in the spring as a final push before the switch to Core i7 technology. The chipmaker is expected to launch two new processors, the Core 2 Duo T9900 which tops 3.06GHz and a Core 2 Duo P8800 at 2.66GHz.
On the chipset front, Intel is planning to launch the GM47 for the high-end in the first quarter of 2009, while in July or August the company will reportedly launch the GL43 for entry-level notebooks and GS40 for small form factor PCs. The platform refresh is going to be short-lived, however, as the next generation Calpella Platform will launch in the second half of 2009 comprising the Nehalem-based Clarksfield mobile processors and Ibex Peak-M (GM57, GM55, PM55) chipsets.
