New MSI Wind BIOS enables overclocking

Overclocking is nothing new for MSI. After all, we’ve seen how they flaunt their one-button Turbo Drive technology. Such feature is usually reserved for their gaming oriented notebooks, but the latest official BIOS update for the company’s Wind U100 netbook includes overclocking functionality.

MSI includes 8, 15, and 24 percent overclocking presets, which can be activated by just by hitting Fn+F10 with the laptop hooked up to AC power. The folks over at Electric Vagabond have put the freshly released v1.09 BIOS update to the test, and found it provides up to a 30% boost in performance – which means the 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor is pushed up to almost 2GHz.

It certainly sounds like a must-have update, but we should note that MSI says it “takes no responsibility for any damage caused by improper use or lack of technical expertise,” so while this is an official BIOS you should use it at your own risk.
