Earlier this week reports began to emerge that game publisher Eidos Interactive was up for sale, with Ubisoft, Electronic Arts and Warner Brothers named as potential suitors. However, a report from MCV today suggests that Japanese publisher Square Enix may also be interested to acquire the company behind the Tomb Raider and Hitman franchises.

Square is hoping to appeal to Western audiences with the move, breaking out of the niche market it carved for itself with RPG titles such as Final Fantasy and most recently The Last Remnant. According to analysts, though, Warner may have the biggest chance to succeed seeing that it already owns 20 percent of Eidos, and would only have to spend $30 million to take a controlling stake.
