Microsoft Flight Simulator studio hit by layoffs

Following yesterday’s announcement that Microsoft’s plans to cut its workforce by up to 5,000 jobs, it looks as though one of the teams worst affected could be Flight Simulator studio ACES. According to Gamasutra, a majority of staff (if not all) has been laid off, which not only raises questions as to what will happen with the popular 26 year old franchise but also leaves the future of Microsoft’s upcoming Train Simulator up in the air.

Flight Simulator is one of the oldest franchises in PC gaming, going back to 1982, and has so far continued up to the current Flight Simulator X title which was released in 2006 and is regularly supported by third party expansion packs – it would be a shame to see it discontinued. Are you a fan of the series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Why wouldn't they sell off this division, it would have grabbed a fancy price from a buyer even in this economy...

Is it just me or has the management of this company really started to slip? They just don't seem to think of the obvious anymore!

Sad, this is one the most familiar and most stable of all the past Micro$oft products. I'll miss it. Time to download and archive!

Perhaps, sells of MS Flight Sim are just non-existent? Sad!

So, Age of Empires? Train Simulator? What's next?

I know! They should copy Apple's Garage Band! Oh, they're doing that... Sigh! Why?

Well, back to the O'l more or less stable Windows XP Pro SP3. Hopefully they'll actually release a working and stable updated OS someday. Sigh! One that Flight Sim actually works with!!!!!

How many of you have downgraded your Vista packages? Oh, sorry, that's right! We don't say that 'word' any more! Mojavie!!!

"What do people think of Windows Vista when they don’t know that it’s Windows Vista?"

Should we tell them?

Very nice Michael, you just took the Flight Sim argument to bash MS for not being more like Apple, very nice...
