Better late than never, right? CBS is (finally) following in the footsteps of other networks like ABC, NBC, TBS and TNT by launching an iOS app that enables iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners to stream HD-quality, full-length episodes of primetime, daytime and late night programming on their mobile device.

CBS' press release highlighted several of the network's more popular shows including NCIS, The Good Wife, CSI, How I Met Your Mother, The Young & The Restless and The Late Show with David Letterman. Of course, that's only a small sampling of what the app has to offer.

We are told that daytime and late night programming will be available within 24 hours after its initial broadcast while most primetime programs will be available for viewing on the eighth day after broadcast. The company plans to introduce similar full episode streaming apps for Android and Windows 8 later this year although a specific launch window wasn't mentioned.

The CBS app will integrate the existing CBS Connect app experience by the start of the fall television season. At that time, the app will offer integrated social feeds, live events that allow users to engage directly with talent and second-screen experiences synched to the broadcast they are watching. There will even be extra content for select shows like CSI, Hawaii Five-O, Criminal Minds, CSI and NCIS: Los Angeles.

The app is available free of charge immediately via the App Store. Now if we could just get more networks to build similar apps to stream programming, we'd be content to wait for a la carte programming.
