Benchmarks: File Copy Test

The Intel SSD 520 Series 240GB drive is off to an excellent start providing a throughput of 172.9MB/s in our file copy test. This made it 10% faster than the Vertex 3 240GB and 4% faster than our fastest tested SF-2281 drive to date, the ADATA S511 240GB.

When compared to the Crucial m4 512GB the Intel SSD 520 Series 240GB was 2% faster and 22% faster than the SSD 510 Series 120GB drive. The only drive to beat the Intel SSD 520 Series 240GB was the Samsung 830 Series 512GB which was 18% faster.

The program copy test is comprised of many small non-compressed files (6104 files totaling 2.75GB). The Intel SSD 520 Series 240GB performs much like other SF-2281 based SSDs that we have tested. With a throughput of 184.1MB/s it is a fraction faster than the Kingston HyperX 240GB just slightly slower than the ADATA S511 240GB and OCZ Vertex 3 240GB.

The game copy evaluation uses a mixture of small and large compressed and uncompressed files. Like our program copy test the game copy test also saw the Intel SSD 520 Series 240GB deliver similar performance to other SF-2281 based SSDs. Here it produced a throughput of 189.4MB/s making it roughly as fast as the OCZ Vertex 3 240GB.
