Hi Everyone-
End of an era. It seems like AVG has crossed that line, and now is going to plague free users with naggings screens.

Please recommend another free antivirus software. THX!

Also: YES I know how to use the search feature.
I am asking this wonderful community for current recommendations. Things change.

I used to try to talk everybody into using Norton, but that was in the mid-1990s before Norton decided to monopolize and functionally handicap the average home computer with "protection."

Things change.

avast: no auto scheduler?

hello- i downloaded avast, and installed it.

it looks like it has no auto scheduler in the free version.

does this sound right? if so, i am gonna get rid of avast and move on to the other recommended program.

AVG

I have seen AVG about 200 times in the last couple of days as I cruise the net looking for help with my hijacked computer. Now you are indicating it has seen better days.
No one has ever listed it other than as AVG
What is AVG - does it have a real name
Maybe I am wasting my time since you say it is over with and you are looking for help elsewhere, but I am just curious.
When I am searching around the net looking for answers, so many new things get introduced to me that it seems the quest for knowledge will never end.
Anyway, maybe you can answer one nagging question for me.
TIA

This must be the "other thread" that you reffered to ! Kim anyway, AVG sure seems to have taken on other characteristics post V7.5. it absolutly dominates both cores on my machine and and wont back down or let another app break in. AVG has had some rather large screw ups over the last year (most notably the June incident where it identified everything ,including the living room sofa as a virus) and most recently it refuses to vault or remove certain trackers.....HMMMMM. Kimsland recommended Avira, tons better

red, to the best of my knowledge, support for AVG v7.5 stopped as of 12/31/08. You would need to update to v8 for continued support. kimsland left this for users a while back to remove AVG if it corrupts in the removal:
Download the archive avg8.zip
Quote:
1. Unpack all files from the archive avg8.zip into one folder
2. Run the file KLeaner.exe
3. Wait until the utility finishes its work
4. Restart your PC
Grisofts actual Remover tool: http://www.grisoft.cz/filedir/util/a...avgremover.exe

Joan, AVG, for the most part, it was an antivirus program. It had both a free version and a paid version. It worked well until the update to v8, which combined a spyware/adware program with the AV. Since then, it has had numerous updating problems. I no longer recommend it.

AVG Technologies was formerly Grisoft. I suspect that the letters AVG might have stood for AntiVirus- Grisoft. I notice the Grisoft name is no longer used.

You can find company information here: http://free.avg.com/about

Actually not sure
But I mention to remove AVG so often it just becomes a blur

Uninstall your AVG Antivirus
Then run the removal tool
Here is the 32Bit version (most users): http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_arm_sup_____.dir/avgremover.exe
Here is the 64Bit version: http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_arv_sup_____.dir/avgremoverx64.exe

Install Avira free AntiVirus. Way better

Here's a small list of Antiviruses:

PC Tools
Comodo Internet Security
Avast

BTW you can save your companies money using Comodo and (i think) the PC tools AV. They are acceptable to install in Commercial Environment.... I haven't been brave enough to take that plunge.
