Bootable USB Virus trouble

Hi,
So my dad's old computer got a serious virus. basically I need to do a repair of windows from the bios with the boot cd, but about a month ago my dad cd/dvd drive broke. This isn't his main computer so he doesn't see the need to get a new one. Basically I need to know how to install windows xp off a usb device. I've already copied the files of the original windows xp os cd to the usb, but boot kept failing. What do I need to do without having to buy a new cd/dvd drive.
