[Solved] Win2k doesn't boot, STOP C0000218 : Unknown Hard Error

As the title already says, when we try to boot into Windows2000 SP4 we get a STOP error with the code : C0000218, Unknow Hard Error.
We did get into Recovery Console and are trying to do a "chkdsk /p"
But then a message appears that the drive is to corrupted.

Anyone having a solution on howto solve the problem (last solution would be a complete re-installation, but maybe you have some other problems).

Note : The system also contains SafeBoot.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

This is the meaning of your bugcheck code.

0xC0000218: UNKNOWN_HARD_ERROR

A necessary Registry hive file couldn’t be loaded. The file may be corrupt or missing (requiring either an Emergency Repair Disk or a Windows reinstallation). The Registry files may have been corrupted because of hard disk corruption or some other hardware problem. A driver may have corrupted the Registry data while loading into memory, or the memory where the Registry is loading may have a parity error (turn off the external cache and check the physical RAM).

First test your ram using the Memtest86+ programme from HERE

If you have a floppy drive. Download the floppy version, put in on a formatted floppy disk, and boot from it.

If you don`t have a floppy drive. You can download the pre-built iso version. Unzip it once, and burn the resulting file to cd as an image. Then boot from that.

Let the programme run for at least seven passes.

If that doesn`t help. Try doing a Windows repair as per this thread HERE

Solved,

We started after the recovery console with F8 and choosed the option Safe Mode met Command Prompt.
From there, we runned chkdsk and after that finished, we booted into "normal" Safe Mode and then we ranned again chkdsk.
After that we rebooted again into normal Windows2000 and it runned fine.

Then we inserted the laptop into the docking station and voila, one again the error appeared (we didn't had this problem earlier with this laptop and docking station). But we changed the docking station and all it working again

Thanks again for your help!
