4 x Samsung F3 in RAID10 vs Intel XM25 SSD

Hello All,

I have an Adaptec 5405 raid controller (1.2ghz ROC & 256mb DDR2) with 4 Samsung F3s in RAID10.

I get a minimum read speed of 290mbs, and an average of 380mbs across the array with an 11ms response time.

I was going to buy an SSD - but maybe it's not worth it?

Intel XM25 says read speeds of up to 250mbs... and writes of up to 70mbs...

Any advice?

Regards,

Alex.

Get an ssd for your os, they usually run faster on dedicated cards than through the mobo itself. Or maybe I should ask what exactly do you want to use the ssd for.

The benefit you'll see is on your write speeds. I have to assume that you don't really avg more than around 100-150 MB/s on that setup - but if write speed is not a concern then you're probably set and likely have more storage than ANY SSD you're gonna get these days.
