56k Modem Problems

I have a problem with my modem. Well several problems, the first being I use dial-up. Nothing I can really do about that though. My problem is, seemingly randomly, I will get an error pop-up (One of those annoying Don't send error report kind of boxes) It says that my modem has encountered a problem. I don't know what's causing it. Any ideas?

Delete the modem from device manager and reboot. Windows shoudl pick up on the modem and reinstall, if not reinstall the drivers manually.

Just in case, if your modem has two jacks at the back, make sure the incoming telephone wire is plugged into the correct one. One is usually incoming and the other outgoing to a telephone.

If all else fails, including what SNGX1275 recommended, you might have to get a new modem. They are generally inexpensive but don't go too far in that direction.
