  1. This started recently ...when i turn on the pc the sound is working properly.. after a while and suddenly the sound stops... i can't hear anything .. when i open sth in real player or wmp it doesn't even play... the device manager says everything is ok... no yellow or red marks everything is apparently good.. the problem is ... the second I reboot or shut down the pc the sounds starts playing again (the windows rebooting sound).
sometimes I work on the pc for hours but nothing happens... sometimes the sound stops playing in a matter of an hour or 2.
Pentium 4 ... motherboard Soltek ... Cpu Amd athlon
Operating system Windows Xp service pack 2

    any suggestions?

Try reinstalling the sound driver from the motherboards support website. You can always turn off the on-board sound in the bios and install a good PCI sound card
