My wifes b-day is coming up and was thinking of adding more ram to it, I have always worked on pcs, but never ventured into laptops for upgrading hardware. I wanted to know if there was anything I should be cautious before doing so, or just buy the ram and let bestbuy do it where I got the laptop for her in the first place, it takes PC2100 I believe and I wanted to throw in 512MB into it.

Look up Crucial. They might have memory compatible with your laptop. All you need to remember is to buy memory in SODIMM format, other then that the same recommendations for normal memory apply here : buy a good reputable brand, don't be afraid to pay a little more for a proper warranty & double-check the necessary memory module speed for your system before you buy.
