Kanye has been on that impulsive streak seemingly since his early days. That along with how he dresses is what sets him apart from other people. Whether or not he felt that she may have been entitled to the award that she would later go on to win that night, he just felt he had to say it. Kanye's public image was somewhat marred by the event but I don't think that heavily influences his constant apologies and the song he wrote following the event, but he did quiet down a bit and was pretty serene when seen at certain events.
