  1. Apple has just revealed its updated range of iMacs for 2015. The biggest news is that fans of the company’s all-in-one computers can now get their hands on a 21.5-inch model with a 4K display. Additionally, all 27-inch iMacs will now feature a 5K screen as standard, and the updated range will include Apple’s redesigned Magic Keyboard and offer the choice of a Magic Mouse 2 or Magic Trackpad 2.

There are two updated 1920 X 1080 models of the 21.5-inch iMac available. The cheaper version retails for $1099 and features a 1.6Ghz dual-core Intel i5 processor with a turbo boost up to 2.7Ghz, 8GB of memory, a 1TB hard drive and Intel’s integrated HD graphics 6000 GPU; the $1299 model gets you a faster 2.6GHz quad-core i5 with 3.3Ghz Turbo Boost, a 1TB fusion drive and an Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 GPU.

Anyone thinking of buying an updated quad-core 21.5-inch iMac would probably be better off paying the extra $200 and getting the Retina 4K model. It may have pretty much the same specs as the $1299 non-retina display iMac, but its native resolution of 4096×2304 and 3.1Ghz quad-core i5 with 3.6Ghz Turbo Boost could make it worth the extra money.

The three 5K (5120x2880 pixel) 27-inch iMacs – which use Skylake CPUs as opposed to the Broadwell processors in the 21.5-inch versions - are priced at $1799, $1999 and $2299. Each model comes with a different GPU (AMD Radeon R9 M380, M390 or M395, all with 2GB of video memory), storage size/type and processor speed.

“From the first iMac to today, the spirit of iMac has never wavered — deliver the ultimate desktop experience with the latest technologies, gorgeous displays and cutting-edge designs,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “These are the most stunning iMacs we’ve ever made. With our gorgeous new Retina displays, more powerful processors and graphics and all-new Magic accessories, the new iMac continues to redefine the ultimate desktop experience.”

Although the range of iMacs can be configured to upgrade their memory, processor and storage options, the non-Retina 21.5-inch models’ processors cannot be upgraded.

Apple said the displays on the new iMacs now show a 25 percent greater range of colors, making them stronger and more accurate. They also come with a headphone jack, an SD card slot, four USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt 2 ports, a gigabit Ethernet port, 1.3Gbps 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0 as standard. All models are shipping today.

As much as I love my desktop, I must confess I've considered supplementing it with an iMac for the significant amount of video editing I do.

Looking at the bezel thickness, there is still plenty of edges to cut off, imo.

    Chainsaw anyone?
