The big picture: At its Wonderlust event this week, Apple unveiled a slew of new hardware, including the iPhone 15 series, Watch Series 9, Watch Ultra 2, Watch SE (2023), and more. On the same day, the company also announced the date for the public rollout of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, tvOS 17, and macOS 14 'Sonoma' after unveiling them at the WWDC 2023 event earlier this year.
As per a new update to the official Apple website, iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17 will be available for download globally from September 18. iOS 17 will come pre-installed on the iPhone 15 series and will be rolled out to a number of older models, going back to the iPhone XS, XS Max, and iPhone XR, all of which were released in 2018.
Apple typically supports its iPhones for around 5 years, so the incoming update is expected to be the last hurrah for these devices. Here's the complete list of iPhones that will get the iOS 17 update:

Apple has already announced a number of iOS 17 features that should enhance the iPhone experience for users. Having introduced lock screen widgets in iOS 16, Apple is not only making them interactive in iOS 17, but it also now supports third-party applications. Then there's NameDrop, which will allow iPhone users to easily share contact information by bringing two different iPhones close together.
FaceTime is also getting a new feature that will allow users to send audio and video messages if someone misses a FaceTime call. Another new feature is an enhanced Standby Mode that allows the iPhone to be used as an information hub, displaying time notifications and more while the device is charging. Finally, Apple also announced an all-new application that allows users to keep track of their daily activities, contacts, location and more.
Coming to the Mac, Apple also announced a release date for macOS Sonoma. According to the company's official website, it will be rolled out on September 26. Here's the full list of compatible devices:
