Have you ever seen a smartphone in the store and wished that it came with a different operating system? Archos' latest budget handset puts the choice of OS in your hands, coming in both Windows 10 Mobile and Android 5.1 flavors.
The Archos 50 doesn't exactly come with great hardware, though that's expected for an entry-level device. There's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 powering this handset, along with a 5.0-inch 720p IPS display, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, a 2,100 mAh battery, and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera.
The two variants (the Archos 50 with Windows 10 Mobile, and the Archos 50e with Android) look pretty similar from the outside. One image shows the Android variant with physical navigation buttons alongside the buttonless Windows 10 Mobile model, while another shows both models without buttons, so the phone is clearly not yet ready for release.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this smartphone will dual-boot into both operating systems, so you will have to pick which OS you want before you make a purchase. And speaking of a purchase, the Archos 50 will be available in November for €119 (US$136), putting it in direct competition with the popular Motorola Moto E.
The Archos 50 will be shown off at next week's IFA 2015 event in Berlin, where we're expected to see a whole bunch of new smartphones for the first time.
