ASUS X-Series - Stereo Sound Problem

I'm having sound issues; after installing the software/drivers that came with my motherboard, i still am getting sound in the 5.1 format, yet i dont have the hardware to support it. i simply have two desktop speakers.

Can anyone help me out here please? Thanks.

What exactly is your mobo and is it a built in soundcard???? Its impossible to diagnose a problem with so little information.
