AT&T has announced that it will be exclusively carrying the BlackBerry Passport, which has been redesigned at the carrier's request -- it features round edges instead of the sharp corners that the original device sports.

When asked about the change in design, BlackBerry CEO John Chen, who was talking at a press conference at the ongoing CES event in Las Vegas, just said that "AT&T wanted rounded corners. Some of us are more square. No other reason than that."

Aside from the new look, the device is similar to the original Passport, which sports a 2.2GHZ quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4.5-inch square display, full QWERTY keyboard, 13-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera, and 32 GB of Storage.

As for the price, AT&T said the smartphone will be available for $200 under a two-year agreement, $21.67 with the company's Next 24 plan, $27.03 with its Next 18 plan, $32.50 under the Next 12 plan, and $650 without a contract. Availability details will be announced in the coming weeks.

In addition, AT&T announced that it will also start selling the BlackBerry Classic in the "near future". It will cost $50 under a two-year agreement, $14 per month under Next 24, $17.50 under Next 18, $21 under Next 12, and $420 without a contract.

Launched last month, the Classic features a traditional QWERTY keyboard as well as other signature BlackBerry phone features like a trackpad, and is aimed at the company’s traditional consumer base: business users.

I find it odd that it has already been "redesigned" after only a few months. That said, I like the curved corners. Very stupid to have it as a carrier-exclusive though.
