Bethesda has teamed up with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami’s studio Tango Gameworks to develop a new game called The Evil Within. The survival horror title is expected to arrive next year on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and next generation consoles, we’re told.

Mikami said he was incredibly proud to announce the game and that his team is committed to creating an exciting new franchise that will provide fans with the perfect blend of horror and action.

IGN was first to break the news and will have an exclusive first impressions of the game on April 22. Until then, all we have to go on is the live-action debut trailer embedded below.

Naturally, we aren’t expecting much next week considering there seemingly wasn’t enough gameplay footage to stitch together a true trailer. Either way, we can still gather a few clues from the live-action clip as to the direction this game may take.

The setting for the trailer appears to be some sort of abandoned hospital. In it, we see glimpse of someone building a device out of barbed wire while three other “evil” characters are seemingly closing in on him. One looks to be a muscular man with pieces of glass protruding from his skin, another is an ominous character with a box on its head and a sledgehammer in tow while the third is a spider-like female that arises from a pool of blood.

Be sure to mark your calendar for next Monday as IGN comes forward with more information about The Evil Within.

Looking forward to seeing this in action. I could use a decent horror game for a change that's not part of the main IPs (Silent Hill, Resident Evil, etc.) to have something fresh.

Meh - with about 2 seconds of game footage stitched into 3 minutes of movie footage, not a lot to get excited about. Yet. But you have two historically excellent producers in Bethesda and Tango Gameworks working together, so hopefully this will pan out to their usual level of excellence.
