Bigger Jumpdrive is not detected

My work computer (Win XP-Professional) can detect a jumpdrive (Lexar) of 512 MB capacity and it works fine, but cannot detect a drive bigger than 512 MB. When I go to 'control panel\administrative tools\computer management\storage' I can see my jumpdrive listed but its state is 'idle' and it is not mounted. The Windows Explorer does not list it.

May be defective. They have a 15% failure rate.
But try it in another computer, and in other usb ports of that computer afterward. If the other computer detects it, reformat it before using in the target computer.
