BIOS setup utility opens first whenever I turn on the PC

  1. Whenever I turn on the PC the first thing that opens is the Award Bios Setup Utility. 2667 MHZ is highlighted and the date and time are wrong by about 9 years.

I set the MHZ on manual and change the date and time and save as I exit. XP runs fine until the next time I start the machine and it happens again.

Is there an internal battery that may be dead?

    I appreciate any help,

    McKerracher

Yes, the CMOS battery on the motherboard could be dead. It is a flat, disk type of battery about the size of a nickle and is commonly available.
