hope someone can help. i am running vista on my pc. after a reboot i get nothing but a black screen. if i go in under safe mode and i try to use a restore point, a disk failure message comes up before restore can complete. could the drive be fried? any help would be appreciated.

Is the drive detected in your BIOS?

    thanks

thanks for answering. yes the drive was reconized in BIOS. but when i rebooted again, a gateway repair startup program was available. i ran that program and it fixed the problem for time being. wish i knew the cause tho. thanks

:) Lucky break, good for you. Hopefully all is well, now.

You may want to run a chkdsk or some other drive diagnostics software to ensure that your drive is not failing. In addition with backing up anything that is absolutely essential (which should be done anyway...).
