    could b the floppy disk drive...or the disks ur inserting r defective...check the cables...r they connected well???

    For some reason Windows XP just hates floppies, I had the same problem, and the solution to fix this was to meddle with some registry keys. If you use google you should be able to find some answers from the Microsoft knowledge base. If you don't know what you are doing with the registry, then DO NOT tamper with it.

    thanks for the reply. i checked the registry, and the info for the floppy disk is in there. i didn't mention before, but i installed a new mbo "A7V880". if i go to contro panel/systems/hardware device/ the floppy drive & floppy controller are there also. everything seems to be in place, but still does not recognize the floppy.

    I have this same problem only slightly differnt. I bought a new hard drive and hooked it up toy Mobo(SATA) then I tried to install XP.got through the pre load and when it said starting windows it jumps into the blue stop screen.
    am I missing a driver or something?
