  1. This error popped up yesterday and prevented XP from loading.

    stop error 0x000007b 0xf78a2524 0x0000034

Tried a few times. Same problem.

    1. I could start in safe mode, so I restored back. Didn't help.
    2. I then put in my XP cd and went for a system repair. It completed but wouldn't start windows. Just hung
    3. hmm .. there was a factory password on the BIOS, so I flipped the cover and reset the jumper. I cleaned out the dust. Restarted, dropped into the BIOS and everything was as it should be.
    4. I then decided to rebuild the O/S. Loaded from the CD but gave the same 7b error a few minutes in. Repeated this and get the same result.

So, this is where I am now.

I assume this is a hardware issue and I am thinking hard drive or possibly motherboard..... I have nothing to substitute with and I don't want to BUY parts one after the other ..

    Any ideas ??

Have you tried rebuilding the MBR and scanning for viruses use a live CD like UBCD.

If all else fails try reinstalling xp that should fix it.
