Can a "gaming" mouse or keyboard really improve your performance?

Agree with most of whats been said, but I think a particular issue has been missed. A gaming mouse will have no effect on a new player or moderately skilled player for a game. Its only when you get to a very high skill level that it makes a difference. This is because your opponent is as skilled as you and plays like you. Then, the tiny timing and accuracy differences can actually make a difference here.

So buy a gaming mouse if you are the type of player who stays loyal to a game for years and plays several times a week. Stick with whatever is comfortable if you prefer the variety of multiple games or play irregularly. Alternatively, buy a gaming mouse if money is no object.

Also I think for high skill players the gaming mouse has the benefit of instilling confidence in your hardware, which can be important.

I see your point, but then again, I am by-far not a highly skilled player, but I can notice those "tiny" timing and accuracy differences on my standard little gigaware mouse. I have played with a gaming mouse and many others, and noticed that the gaming mouse did help, largely to do with the fact that the buttons werent very weak, and it was more accurate.

Sentence structure doesn't have anything to do with gaming imo. but like I said its a combination of ability to harness the extra capabilities of the hardware and quality of the mouse in this instance aswell.

the extra buttons on a gaming mouse also come in handy for key bindings and macros

I never said it had anything to do with it, just find it hard to agree with someone who typed like they didn't know what a period was...lol.

Anyway, yes they can. Sometimes having a single button buy an assorment of weapons in CS:S can speed you up greatly.

Well, Thats exactly the question i asked myself when i was looking into buying a Razer Copperhead (2000Dpi) . I havnt used a mouse like it. Its extreamly precise, With adjustable DPI settings, it cant be better. I mainly play Call of Duty 4, And i can clear a full clip of G3 bullets (single fire gun) in about 3 seconds, with my old mouse it was about 5-6. With the copperhead you can change the side buttons to anything you want, the front of mine is sprint, and the other knife. Which works perfect for me.

I then moved on to a Razer Lachesis recently, this mouse is even better, A bit more money, but worth it, 4000DPI just rips through anyone. all the same features as a copperhead.

Oh, also, dont just run in and buy a gaming mouse, Think first, Are you a slider (move your whole arm) or a flicker (move just your wrist)?

    Razer Sliders:

    Diamondback
    Deathadder

    Razer Flickers:

    Lachesis
    Copperhead - both ambidextrous.

Gaming keyboards.. Well, i got a logitech g15, simply because it looked cool, the G keys are good for typing fast but i have found no real use for them within the games i play. The screen comes in handy to check the time and your system info, who left/joined teamspeak. but its no big miss.

Hope you enjoy my essay. If you need any advice on a mouse/keyboard, feel free to contact me.

I use a g5 gaming mouse on second speed with 4-4,5 weights and 4-1,7 on second speed.

I've heard lots about the Razer keyboard and mice. They look neat, also.

The best overall mouse is the Logitech G9. It has replaced the G5 and is better than the Razor mice for one reason. It's not made out of cheap materials. The Razor mice are awesome but break easily. If you're a true gamer like me you've probably thrown your mouse, slammed your keyboard dead or shaken your monitor so hard that the power cord fell out. Anyway gaming mice really do help you. You wish you were as 1337 as me xD

Nah, I have nearly shattered the school mice, though. I got so angry at Solidworks I heard it cracking while I was barely squeezing.

I think it's all about your own taste and comforts...personally I have been using a S$20 laptop mouse (about USD$15) since I got my laptop 2 years ago and I bought an exact same mouse after the original spoilt, and after I built my computer I began using that mouse again because I simply can't use any other mouse to game...so I guess if you're used to one stick to it.
