Can't connect laptop to TV using HDMI

I'm using a HDMI cable to connect a laptop to a TV. I've tried three different ports on my TV and the only port on my laptop. I have attempted to remove any dust from all the ports. I have also used Port 1 on my TV which has worked for other HDMI cables. I have cycled through the input channels to make sure the TV is on the right output. I have tried to change my laptop settings to detect the TV and connect to it, but it won't detect the TV.

My laptop has no graphics card though, only the on-board graphics chip in the motherboard and I'm not sure if this makes a difference. I have no other way of testing the cable, otherwise I would have. The HDMI port on the laptop has never been used before.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First time can be a chore.

  1. fully power down the PC,
  2. connect PC->HDMI->TVhdmiPort
  3. select that port on the TV (should say no signal)
  4. NOW boot thePC
you should see the PC autodiscover the HDMI and load the driver for it
and when it's ready the TV should show the desktop.

You may need to toggle the TV inputs back to TV and again to HDMIx
Also the PC may need to set MIRROR or Duplicate video (typically F2)

Sound: ONCE video is displayed, right-click the speaker icon in the tray.
Select Playback devices-> the new third choice and make that the DEFAULT
