Can't connect wirelessly

We just moved into a new apt. All our phone calls have bad reception and dropped calls. Our laptop shows great connection with all bars strong but we can't log on to the Internet however I have no problem with my apple iPad. As an after thought, even our xm radio in our vehicle doesn't work until we pull away from the building. Any ideas on how to fix this without spending a fortune. (Our cable/Internet company says it is our computer however when taken elsewhere, it works fine)

Having worked with shortwave radio, this is a sure sign of
  1. weak signals
  2. interference from other devices nearby
  3. reflection from nearby objects
I've always suffered FM reception problems at home as I live in a hilly area and the signals bounce about badly. Walk across the street and it's all fine, but that doesn't help FM, cell phones & wifi in the house.

Stick with the 2.4GHz wifi as it's better that the 5GHZ in this case. Consider a range extender or access point to boost the signal to other portions of the house.

Lastly, you can use an EoP device to position an access point nearby, eg:
modem==existing router---Eop.Device - - - Remote.Eop---Access Point . . . Wifi connections
Here's the EoP device I am using
