Car alarm help

    i am attempting to install the general motors VSS-350 car alarm in my 89 firebird. this is the first time i have tried to install a car alarm. i have hooked everything up but when i connect the battery the alarm goes off. is there something special i need to do before i reconnect the battery? and do i need to program the remotes that came in the box? if so how do i do that?
