Cd-rom and dvd-rom missing

Recently both dvd rom and cd rom drives on my girlfriends pc are missing. I can't find them in device manager or control panel or using windows explorer. I have also tried system restore. Nothing new has been added to the machine . I have scanned with ad-aware and spybot search and destroy. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I tried searching thru old posts, but came up bust.

Do they show up in Bios?

If not, maybe you should replace the ide cable.

Thanks to both of you. I'm trying the reg fix right now. I was hoping not to open the case , but that was my next step, thanks again.

Reg fix didn't work. I guess I'm goin in.

Cable was partially out, darn those gremlins.lol. Thanks for your help. This place ROCKS!
