CDPR claims Cyberpunk 2077 will eventually become a "very good game"

Maybe this is a lesson (hopefully) for game studios - it‘s OK to make your game a showcase for your sponsor‘s hardware *if* you can do it without messing the game up for everyone else.

I do doubt that it was worth it from a business perspective in the end.

Oh, and they‘re ranked #72 on the SteamCharts behind games that I‘ve never even heard about. Comparing the game‘s all time peak to the numbers since February is pretty sad.
Yes I think that they didn't expect that kind of empty shelves all over the world ... new 30 series cards , new xbox , new ps ...but they were nowhere to be seen. So everyone played on older systems and it wasn't nice...

It’s like someone promised you a mega Mac (the four burger Big Mac) and in the bag you find a cheeseburger. Yes. The cheeseburger is good. It’s worth the money you paid. It’s got a gerkin. But it’s not a four burger Big Mac with the special Big Mac sauce. It’s just a cheeseburger. Nothing special.

I got to the romance section I think. In a diner and choices to make. I can’t be arsed. I’ll probably pick it up again when I’m bored of everything else.
More like someone promised a mega big Mac years ago, but then closer to launch they updated expectations to a double big Mac.

Like, the previews and gameplay the year of launch tempered expectations for a lot of us (as this happens with a lot of ambitious games that announce too many details too early).
I would've loved for them to keep wall running and other fun/complex features, but I'm also realistic.

First, (serious voice but tongue in cheek) a double Big Mac would be a mega mac. 4 burgers instead of 2. You may be muddling it up with the Grand Big Mac. Who knows

Secondly, their nightwire video diaries were bigging up the three careers as having massive impact on the story. They really don’t. So they may have dialled some stuff back and been obvious about it but there was a lot that they still reckoned was the nuts. But wasn’t.
Thirdly. Really it isn’t that good a game. It’s not a great shooter. There are many better ones. It’s not a great adventure. It’s linear and boring. It’s not a great open world. The systems you take for granted are non existent or broken or just very low effort (teleporting cops for months as an example). It’s not even fun to cause havoc and escape.

The one thing it does have in its favour is the cyberpunk universe. If this wasn’t a cyberpunk game, it would have tanked and if the devs hadn’t done Witcher 3 no one would care.

I don't fast food anymore (beyond getting cheeseburgers every few years). I don't think we have mega (by name) up here, and figured mega was still more special than double lol

And I'm not saying that there weren't/aren't problems, but a lot of them are exaggerated by people who were expecting a lot more from the game (can't entirely blame them though, with the promises made) and by people who jumped on that bandwagon.
The cops thing though was a dumb bug to leave in. I could take them on for fun halfway through both of my playthroughs, but it definitely didn't get me anywhere.

Objectively, I will still say it's a good game. As I said, it kept my interest, which many recent games just haven't done. Could've definitely used another year (or 2) of polish, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it's made out to be (if you only look for the negatives, you'll definitely be biased to find them).

Hmm no one thinking about Cyberpunk? I don’t think so.

When Cyberpunk re released on the PS4 on June 21st it was top of the PSN charts for June in just 9 days and that was 6 months on from the original launch. There’s clearly pent up demand for it.

I reckon a lot of people are waiting until they get a next gen console and the next gen release of the game to play it. The game may be dead as a premium option to the PC market but the money printing is far from over for CD Projekt Red. Those PS5 and XS versions are going to bring in yet more millions.

There is also the first proper DLC due to arrive next year. Rather than the car and junk we got this year. That will drive up numbers somewhat.

This game does NOT work properly on PS4 or Xbox One X.

This game NEVER should have been promised to PS4 or Xbox One X owners.

If it was a PS5/ Xbox Series X launch title availability it might have changed the entire attitude towards CDPR. Those systems have faster CPU, faster GPU and SSD for faster loading of assets.

and even those "next gen systems" are obsolete now compared to the 3080/ 3080Ti and 3090.

The PS4 and Xbox One X were inferior to the 2080Ti.

It doesn’t work as well as the PC version. But it does work. No need to be all snobby about it dude..

The gripe I have with this game has to do with the way it is written. I don't think it's going to become a good game in my eyes unless they rethink the way the dialogues work, and record new voice lines. Remember that first dialogue with the ripperdoc? You have an optional dialogue about Dexter DeShawn, and after you listen to it, you proceed to the main conversation where they say exactly the same things you've just heard. There's no continuity and no self-awareness, and just in general the writing is really glaringly bad on many occasions.

Never expect a PC game would work well on a console and vice versa. No matter what devs promise they just don't mix and match.

You're talking about a single player game, so steam charts are pretty irrelevant.
Wouldn‘t they show people who bought it via Steam who are playing the game at a given moment ?

Their top record was 830,000 in December 2020, now it‘s 23,000 which I would call a significant decline.

Farming Simulator 19 has 16,000 players and its 30 day average is actually higher than Cyberpunk‘s ( 9.7k vs 16k)

Sometimes, I wonder...is it worth to protect your ego?

Let's face it. This game is a failure. (But CDPR fans will argue otherwise because they bought it on droves. But worse still, many "pre-ordered" this over-hyped game).

Those who uphold this game are either those who have been vehemently praising it before it's release, or those who are timid enough to not be able to eat their words.

This games has been touted to be the event of the decade... (yeah, maybe I'm exaggerating, but not much)... but it's just another mediocre game being painted neon by die-hard CDPR fans, with the biggest marketing hype of the game industry we've seen so far.

Anyway, in the end, CP2077 is just another game lost in the sea of new games nowadays.

The splash that Crysis made relative to it's release date has yet to be matched by any game since. Thought 2077 would make a splash like that, but sadly no.

For the first couple months I was holding out hope it would become a good modding platform instead of a game, not unlike Skyrim which also has (an even greater) lack of content but tons of community effort put into making it something fun.

But after the initial push of a few very cool and respectable early mods, well anything more complex like new quests, subsystems and such never came: seems like most of the modding community already gave up on the game and went back to modding Skyrim instead.

In regards to Skyrim, the breaking of SKSE, active moders were forced / attempting to make there mods work again on top the new "base" game has to account for all the content creation store being part of the game now.

Yep it's a bit difficult because it's not just updating SKSE which I believe already has an alpha/early beta version that works with the update. But every mod that depends on SKSE or another mod that in turn plugs into SKSE needs to wait to be updated.

This is an issue because we know the UI on Skyrim is legendarily bad (Maybe we should say, anniversarily bad now) so almost all significantly involved mods require either the Mod Configuration Menu or MCM which needs to be fully updated and fully tested first and only then can mod authors update their mods (Though they might or might not need to, we'll only know for sure once MCM is fully updated)

So that puts a lot of things on hold. Still a lot of just armor and texture mods and those should work as is without issues but it's not the same.

Skyrim modding is a damn nightmare now. Back in the day it was fine but the constant profusion of versions and updates they receive is abhorrent. You can download and run a mod for Oblivion from 2005 just fine today but good luck doing that with Skyrim. As usual, consoles ruin everything.

The year is 2077 and CDPR have just released a statement saying they have nearly completed CyberPunk 2077 to their satisfaction... Player community are still in an uproar over unfinished crap game from 2020

Played the PC version on a mid level system (4790K @4.6Ghz and a 2080S) at launch and had fun. Doesn't mean I thought the game was flawless or a soon to be "classic" like Witcher 3 became. It's a mediocre Borderlands clone with a mild cyberpunk vibe IMHO. The "lifepaths" were a joke and the RPG elements lacking at best. Story was good over all, but I hated how the last act took away so much of my agency. It felt like I was on rails for most of it. Luckily I didn't suffer any game breaking bugs, but still ran into way too many, even for a fresh release.

But my big question is who's still playing? Really, it's a year old game with virtually nothing new added over that year. If CDPR had released a couple of decent DLCs I'd understand. But it's still the same game it was at lunch, just with fewer but still way too many bugs and glitches. Other than the main quest line it's really grindy IMHO, with a lot of minor variations on a theme. I highly doubt I'll pick it back up when they finally do release any DLC. That ship has sailed for me...

Just finished my first playthrough. It's now on the backburner for a replay after patch1.5. Looking forward to when hacking/stealth becomes a useful part of the game and they fix more stuff. I felt it was more of a Dying Light/Deus Ex/Fallout mash-up but far more enjoyable and engaging.
