China customs seize thousands of GPUs from XFX

If you mean that devices running Steam <> all devices, well, of course.

If you mean that it's unreliable as far as devices with Steam on them, then I have yet to hear that proof. Do you have a link?

Personally I'm of the belief that the Steam Hardware Survey is a reasonable overview of the hardware in use by Steam users, and also that Steam users are a reasonable proxy for PC gamers generally.

Of course I agree that the GPU market includes both PC gamers and miners, and that miners are mostly not running Steam nor are represented on the survey.

The thing is, every time somebody claims this, they give 0 sources and 0 arguments to back up their argument, nor any better sources for this information.
Check what is AMD's most popular GPU according Steam Survey.

AMD Radeon Graphics

There you had it. Anything else?

(in over 15 years in steam, I never got a survey when I had a radeon, plenty of times when on a geforce and plenty of others have the same experience)

I have owned NVIDIA GPU's almost exclusively and Steam never invited me into a survey or send me a msg that they have used my system data for a survey, ever.

I still haven't stopped laughing at this one. God help the label maker and shipping department for this screw up ....

Don't feel bad. Last survey they asked me to join was shortly after I acquired my GTX 980Ti. So that means that was over 7 years ago.

I've changed CPUs multiple times, new HDDs, re-installations of OS and Steam multiple times, multiple GPUs and so on since.

I used to see the Steam survey come up a lot before I picked up the 980Ti. I still know a few guys that use the 6xxx model GPUs and they've never been prompted by Steam survey. I don't take the results serious, but I find it hard to believe in the info that it provides since I don't know anyone that's been prompted to to take the hardware survey in years. To each their own.

Over the years I've purchased two XFX cards. Both failed within a month. The first one I was able to return to NewEgg without issue. The second card, Kyle from HardOCP helped me get my money back after XFX gave me the run around. Couldn't happen to a more deserving company, imo. I'm sure some people like XFX, but for me, that name just brings up bad memories and lots of headache.
I had the same experience with XFX. I bought one card from them that failed, then two replacements from them failed, and on the 3rd card I gave up and bought a different GPU. Would never buy from them again. I've never had a new GPU fail besides from them.
