codec conflicts in XP

  1. Xvid codec paks methodically crash my XP. From the 3.1 up to and
including the 505 bundle. Microsoft has only referrals to the souce
sites. Is there a known XP friendly Xivd .ax?
    Thank you.

All xvid codecs for windows work with XP. The problem is with your Windows, not the codec. Have you by any chance sometime installed some codec bundles like Nimo?

If yes, then welcome to the Nimo haters club :p

Yes, Nimo has been used and I thought uninstalled. It does uninstall? And the fdd(?) filters the AVI preview rants about uninstall, too. Thanks!

The experience that I have had with Nimo is that it makes it very hard to install any codecs outside of Nimo and that it doesn't uninstall cleanly - format and reinstall to get rid of it..

I haven't touched that evil package for a couple of years though. Maybe things have improved by now..

Decoding or encoding, or both? XviD has quite a lot of settings for encoding and some for decoding, have you tried changing those? Does it crash with every screen resolution / color depth?
