Commerce secretary warns of deep recession if the US loses access to Taiwan-made chips

In that time, we've seen a doubling of energy prices, the fastest rate of inflation rise in US history
At least we aren't in Europe. It's worse there. Maybe you people are right. Biden is magical.
millions of mothers unable to feed their infant children from lack of formula
So don't be a coward. How did Biden do that?
And don't dare try to tell us about the trade point. The restrictions have been in place for a very long time.

From here, let's make a deal. We can start putting up administration's shortcomings one at a time, and let's see who can keep going.
We can do it in General. Maybe in blocks of 3.
It must be a bullshit free zone, so you will start out with a disadvantage.
But that's not my fault.

And please start ASAP! I'm going to my cabin in Eureka Springs soon for 2 or 3 days.

Let me know when you are ready.
I will make the thread and will give you 1st post after that.
And try something new. Link up proven and verified facts. And DO NOT LIE TO US!!!

EDIT:

Thanks for reminding me! We have a thread where I proved our inflation is always higher and why, and I forgot about it until yesterday, and now I'm reminded to finish it.

Western Europe begged to be hosed on energy prices when they swallowed the green energy pill. This is the same western Europe that gave the world the likes of Greta Dumbberg. The same scam artist who push this green energy crap are the same ones who sold the braindead on the Paris Climate Treaty. Now our energy prices here in the US are going through the roof seeing how Biden has put the screws to the US oil & gas sector. To make things worse, the Democrats pushed shutdowns over and over and over not to forget that when the supply chain was at its worst, Pete Buttplug took two month of maternity leave.

Is this the part where the one cell trumpanisms starts picking on Grandmas and teen girls? Because you are outmatched.

The climate problems are what is going to put 95% of you people out of business. That's why I know they are on to something, and you are not.

Can you prove it was not all the factors combined that caused rising prices? Because I can prove they are, and that was before the war.
And I already told you it's much worse for Europe and even Asia, so might want to put your opinions in the trash. That's more than they deserve.

Classy. In other words, trumper.

Hell, with how broken the US is right now, split on literally every subject, we probably wouldnt get ourselves together quick enough if china actually went for it.

Hey man, we're making great strides. We've now cleared the way to using women as baby farms, and pretty soon we're gonna resurrect COAL! Chips, schmips! The devil's toys, I tell you.

You're making this too easy. First off the Euro's were warned by Trump that they were much too dependant on Russian oil & gas and they fvcked him off anyways. Now who's laughing.

Second off you're either lying or misinformed about global warming, climate change etc ... being responsible for 95% of the world's problems. Fact of the matter the green energy scam was responsible for the recent coup in Sri Lanka and African nations such as Ivory Coast going bankrupt.

Thirdly the Euros treated Greta Dummberg the middle school dropout like she was the second coming of Joan of Arc. She even got a gig speaking in front of the EU Parliament, the woke Pope, George Soros and the UN. Can't wait until this winter when the western Euros are freezing their arses off. Hopefully they learn something from all this but that's doubtful.

Fourth but not last, anyone who voted for Biden should be loving these high energy cost seeing how he made it no secret that he was going to screw the US oil & gas sector and he was a man of his word in that regard once he took office. Apparently climate change only affects first world oil & gas producing countries.

China considers Taiwan a break away province. If China decided to invade militarily, I am not at all interested in getting dragged into another war. I certainly don't want to see U.S. military personnel get slaughtered over there, because that is what will happen. Also, I thought I read that Pelosi has a little tit for tat deal with Nvidia for the $52bn deal, in which she stands to make a nice sum. How about we start with kicking people in the federal government like her to the curb, instead of spending money we don't have.

Wrong:

Brussel Times: "European Union economy grows significantly in first quarter of 2022"
Washington Post: "US Economy shrinks 1.4% in first 3 months of year, raising recession fears"

So don't be a coward. How did Biden do that?
I notice you didn't attempt to dispute raging inflation, violent crime, Afghanistan, Ukraine, the southern border disaster. But let's talk baby formula. The Biden Administration shut down 40% of of US production, with absolutely no plan for replacing it, either with domestic or foreign sources. Abbott spent months trying to get the FDA to tell them what was necessary to reopen their plant. They sat on their hands .. and also did nothing to procure formula from other sources.

And don't dare try to tell us about the trade point. The restrictions have been in place for a very long time.
Biden has the authority to remove those restrictions. He did, in fact, finally do so -- but only after many months of shortages, and many millions of babies going without. Why did he wait so long?

We have a thread where I proved our inflation is always higher
Wrong. I showed you -- with the data from your own site -- that the opposite was true.

"Do"" is present tense. "Did", is its past tense. It doesn't matter if its a moment ago, or an eon.

Since the import ban has been lifted. Biden is permitting overseas businesses to import and sell formula here in the USA. So, I'd say the problem of a monopoly on that product is well on its way to being a thing of the past.

Biden acted as soon as it was brought to his attention. I'm sure you fanatical supporters of the great orange turd expect that Joe Biden should be prescient enough to see the shortage. Or maybe you think a 79 year old man would have occasion to be shopping for baby formula.

Well, with out new supreme court's politically oriented liars overturning Roe v. Wade, we're liable to need those imports sooner than later.

OK, Biden has made several moves toward stifling our US oil companies from price gouging. All of his efforts have been blocked by the Republicans in the senate.

Let me explain "cognitive dissonance" to you. It's like when you take the word of a person who is clinically diagnosable as a pathological liar. (over 31,000 bold face lies told while in office), as gospel truth.

A piece of advice on my part would be to quit wasting your obvious debating skills here at Techspot, find a comfy chair, and watch the January 6th committee's hearings.. Even Ivanka Trump, threw dear old dad under the bus. I would assume she has her own affairs and businesses to attend to, and doesn't want the stench from dear old dad rubbing off on her.

You should be posting about climate change being "fake news", from someplace like |San Antonio Texas, instead of a cozy chair somewhere north of the 60th Parallel.

When you have a school system ranked below 40+ other states, you get the turd that is Tom Cruz a governor of Texas. When you have an aging population such as Florida, whom have never voted for a Democrat, you get the psychotic raging bully, a**hole, and windbag that is Ron DiSantis as your governor.

Self indulgent be though ir may, I allow myself one truly stupid question a day, so here it goes: "am I getting through to you"?

I work in the oil industry. Since Biden took office he's killed three major oil fields here in Alaska along with two major pipelines and multiple oil fields in the lower 48.

No, not pointless if it motivates the proper action to be taken to prevent future thefts.

So your argument is that cutting China off from the rest of the world helps their semi industry, but prevents the US semi industry from advancing? And I'm not sure what "raw materials" you believe are sanctioned. The US has sanctiond Russian noble gases ... but there are many other sources of these.

By that logic, if you post a photo of your new car on Facebook, you're giving thieves the right to steal it.
In theory, it will help prevent future thefts. But in practice, there are ways to go around the problem. For example, no technology, hire the people that create these things.

To be fair, I have absolutely no clue how dependent the world is on China and with each other. Its just like most people have no clue/ unsure what is critical from Ukraine and Russia until the impact hits us. It is simple to say that you can go for alternative sources, but (1) can it be done in the short run, while (2) meeting all the demands? Look at Germany now for example. Easy to find alternative for gas? Cutting a country off basically means they are left to do most of the heavy lifting themselves, and as the saying goes, "what doesn't kill you make you stronger" makes sense if you look at those isolated countries. They may not be rich countries, but they are certainly not looking like they will crash and burn anytime. In this case, you cut China off from tech, and they are tripling down on tech investments so that they will have no or minimal dependency on others. And it is not that US is not progressing, but when you have less urgency to fix a problem, you to put the issue in the back burner. Clearly in this case, US finally realizes that they need fabs onshore and fast because of potential threats, whereas, China have been pumping in a lot of money into their tech industry ever since US started sanctioning them from US technology and advance fabs.

As to your analogy of posting a new car on Facebook. I don't find any bearings to what I was talking about. Think of it as China being a lover of Taiwan. US comes into the picture, sends "flowers", always cozying up with Taiwan, don't you find it provocative? Imagine your partner or spouse gets this sort of treatment from someone that you do not approve of, yet the provoking party doubles down on getting close to him/her. How would you have felt and reacted? Happy? What we think as deterrent may end up resulting in the opposite outcome.

Currently, US CHIPS act may help alleviate this reliance on Asia for chips. But it is not something that will come to fruition in short term. It is not just about building the fab as I mentioned before. The fabs needs assets, raw material and staffs to run. You can build a fab in a year for example, you may not find the right people to fill the roles required. So what is said in the article is true.

Better analogy. China is the evil stalker boyfriend that Taiwan broke up with long ago, yet still keeps sneaking around, breaking into her apartment and sending her threatening letters, while she desperately begs the US -- indeed, the entire world -- for help.
