    Mismatched RAM.

    Hello GSM, still here ?

We had a discussion a while back about using 333 RAM sticks in a 133 FSB machine. I might likely be off rails here but here is my experience.

I got this Thinkpad G41 on eBay and it came with 256/200 only of RAM, a snail. I could not get these DDR 200 sticks so I got 2 gigs of DDR400 PC2700 and it runs fine. My feelings is that you can install faster chips and the MoBo will use them at its capable FSB rate. The reverse might not obviously be true, you could not accelerate slow chips.

The Compaq still runs, on Ubuntu now full time, c/w Firefox and Thunderbird. Nice machine it is, thanks to you.

Have a nice winter, it is coming, you know. JP.

    Still running

    Hi Handcuff,
I gave away my Compaq Presario, but i know that the PC is still running smoothly with Windows XP. Glad that yours is also fine.

All the best and kind regards,

    Fine person.

    Good morning GSM.

Thanks a mega for keeping in touch. It is really amazing the persons that one meets on the Web. You are an outstanding one and I tremendously appreciated your inputs, as other have, I am sure.

Fixing that machine, the Compaq, was very interesting. I have the savy to fix it as was shown but without your information, your instructions, I would not have known where to start. It is a blessing to possess an acute mind and thus be able to describe pointedly what is being discussed. I envy you.

My Compaq is still running but side-lined by a Pentium 4. I randomly turn it on and do the XP updates on it. Somebody will enjoy it someday, I hope as it is a fine machine.

In this world of ours, we might never meet again, ships in the night. Rest assured that I have a special niche in my mind for GSM. Thanks, this was fun.

    Godspeed. JP.
