Computer freezes randomly

  1. This has been a problem for a long time. It happened when my computer had been running a game for a long time, and my computer got really hot, but back then it happened like once a fortnight or so. In the past few days, my computer has repetitively froze when all i had running was windows media player and a game, it now even freezes without me actually starting a game and just being in like the online area, which is hardly demanding for my computer. My computer is not even slightly hot when it crashes, which is strange. I moved the comp to a much cooler room so it doesn’t get hot anymore.

Back in march I put in a dvb tv card, so not sure if this is a cause of any problems, which it shouldn’t be as it works fine. When my computer does crash the screen freezes, and my sound stops, also if this means anything, the light on my wireless belkin stops flashing, and the only thing that appears to be still on is the fans and the lights inside the computer. Rarely when it does crash, instead of freezing it actually resets itself. When this happens it comes up with a message talking about windows has recovered from a serious error and stopped unexpectingly. When I go to trouble shoot the problem it says something on the lines, "one of my drivers might not be up to date". If this is so, is there a way to find out which one is causing the problem, and how to update it.

My system specs are 3.4 GHz, 2048mb RAM, 256mb Geforce 6600 GE graphics card.

Thanks in advance, and if you need to know anymore info on my comp that might help, just ask.

another thing i should mention, just before it crashes, or as it crashes, the computer makes 1 loud sudden clicking noise, which is hard to explain. I do fear my power pack may be the cause as it is a cheap one which came with the case, because the computer was made by some people on ebay who jsut put parts together, seemed like a good offer at the time, and has done me well for 2 years or so.
