Just a question I've had a long time, what is the point of a CPU shim? (what do they do). They're only like $2.50, is it worth getting one?

    Thanks.

They are designed to protect the CPU die when you install a heatsink. There is no proof that it helps or hinders heat transfer (although many will argue one way or another). If you've already got your HSF installed on the CPU there is NO reason to get a shim. Even if you didn't there's not much of a reason to (unless you're really worried that you'll break it).

You're quite welcome, and thank you. I just built it about a month ago (first time build) and I absolutely love it.
