University of Michigan astronomers examined old galaxies and were surprised to discover that they are still making new stars. The results provide insights into how galaxies evolve with time. U-M research fellow Alyson Ford and astronomy professor Joel Bregman presented their findings May 31 at a meeting of the Canadian Astronomical Society in London, Ontario.

It's amazing how we talk about stars and galaxys.

The galaxy they mention is 40 million light years away. So that means we're looking at something that we don't even know exists, we just know that it existed 40 million years ago. Just imagine how many stars and galaxys that we can see don't actually exist, how many died many years ago when we were just single celled organisms in a primordial soup on a newly born young earth, yet we can still see them in their whole.

Ya'know, space is a fascinating place. :)
