Comes with a 350 Watt power supply.

Can this power supply handle a 6800GT or 7800GTX. I would think so becuase the system can come with an ATI X800XT if you choose it from Dell.

I just want to make sure before I purchase a higher level video card.

DEll usually uses PSU's built by fortran so they are normally good power supplies. I believe that the 350 Watt PSU fals within the recommended guidelines for the 7800GT. if it doesnt you will have to get a new PSU, and since dell uses proprietary connections for PSU\Mobo you either have to get one from Dell or go to PC Power&cooling.

I don't think dell uses proprietary psus in their newer systems. I think it was some older(like p3 gen) pc's that had proprietary power supplies.
My Dell 2300 has a normal atx power supply, no modding required to get a standard antec sl350 to work in it.

If the psu is of good quality in that dell, then I'd say it can run it, as long as you don't have too many hard drives, fans, opticals, etc. A basic(about 1 hd and one optical drive) system with either of those cards should be fine.
Here, input your specs and see what the calculator says.
