At the Intel Developer Forum, Dell has shown off a new Android tablet that will hit the market in time for the 2014 holiday season. Called the Venue 8 7000 Series, Dell is claiming that at just 6mm thin, it'll be "the world's thinnest tablet".
Most of the other specifications for this upcoming tablet haven't been revealed, although we do know it'll be packing an 8.4-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. Internally we can expect an Intel Atom 'Moorefield' Z3500 series SoC, which are quad-core Silvermont parts clocked as high as 2.33 GHz in the high-end SKUs.
One of the standout features of the Venue 8 7000 Series is the RealSense camera, which uses Intel technology to capture depth maps with every image. It combines a standard camera sensor with several other sensors, including an infrared sensor, allowing the tablet to determine the size of and distance between objects.
RealSense can also be used for refocusing photos similar to what the HTC One M8 provides with its Duo Camera. However, it does require a fairly sizable camera module, which explains why the bottom bar of the tablet - including a large speaker grill - is so large compared to the bezel at the top.
There's no word currently on what the Venue 8 7000 Series will cost, but judging by its hardware it'll likely be a premium device.
