Hello I would like to use my old Toshiba laptop (it is Ubuntu Linux) as a secondary monitor for my desktop (which is vista)/ Is this possible without lots of hardware hacking? the laptop only has an S-video port....my desktop is running an old 8800 gts that i can plug into. Tried a few times to get this working but i was unsuccessful. I have done dual monitor before but not with a laptop as the secondary let alone a Linux laptop. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, this isnt really that simple.

The S-Video port on the laptop is output, not input.

What you would need to do is open the laptop, disconnect the screen and then find a way (through adapters or by making something) to connect the screen to the desktop.

I'd suggest it's better to take the financial hit and buy a monitor, they are reasonably cheap these days if you go for a basic one.
